Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Climate Democracy Initiative is focused on fostering a world where democratic systems respond to climate challenges. They are seeking a Social Media & Communications Intern to create engaging content and support digital storytelling while gaining hands-on experience in nonprofit communications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and post platform-appropriate content for various social media accounts
- Create engaging multimedia (graphics, short-form video, stories/reels) using Canva or similar tools
- Create and maintain a content calendar aligned to program milestones and events
- Monitor partner posts, hashtag trends and other analytics tied to climate, democracy, and sustainability and suggest creative, timely content ideas
- Support promotion of CDI events, announcements, and partner initiatives
- Draft posts for coalition partners and coordinate tags/engagement to broaden reach
- Participate in developing micro-campaigns that highlight diverse voices and community-led solutions
- Recommend tests and experiments (timing, format, caption style) to improve performance
- Assist in the compilation of monthly social media snapshots and reports
- Draft and edit short blog posts, newsletters, and press notes
- Assist with copyediting for clarity, tone, and accessibility
- Help ensure CDI’s voice and brand feel consistent — and consistently welcoming — across platforms
Skills
- Experience creating content for at least two social platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok)
- Strong writing and visual storytelling skills
- Ability to work independently, communicate proactively, and manage tasks in a self-paced environment
- Interest in sustainability, climate justice, democracy, and/or community engagement
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices (alt text, color contrast, captions)
- Experience with Canva or Adobe tools; comfort with short-form video editing
- Understanding of basic analytics and how to use insights to guide content improvements
- Prior experience in nonprofit communications or campus/community organizing
