They are looking for a temporary Senior Software Engineer to assist in delivering products that simplify the tax filing process for low and middle-income filers. The role involves writing code, debugging, developing features, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- As Senior Software Engineer you work mainly as an individual contributor who writes good code and tests with little to no guidance, leaving code better than you found it
- You debug and troubleshoot production issues capably, while gaining versatility with broader knowledge of technologies of our systems
- Write automated tests and develop monitoring strategies to ensure a high level of service quality
- Craft new features that help users more easily navigate government services and receive a dignified experience
- Implement minimal features to maximize learning, and then harden features to scale when we know they work
- Design and deliver clean, reliable, and maintainable solutions to user problems that keep communication high and the cost of change low
- You’re skilled at breaking down, estimating, and prioritizing tasks and have a good architectural/systems perspective
- You are a trusted partner who can reliably own and deliver on medium to large sized projects and consistently demonstrate sound judgment when assessing tradeoffs and prioritization
- You enjoy passing knowledge onto others in your team, at times serving as a mentor to more junior engineers in the team
Skills
- 5+ years professional experience as a full-stack software engineer
- 2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails, and a demonstrated ability to ramp quickly on new tech stacks
- 2+ years experience with managed AWS infrastructure providers/tooling
- 2+ years experience with Agile and/or Scrum methodologies, including: Comfort with pair programming and Scoping, estimating, and documenting work within a ticketing system
- Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering workflows
- 2+ years experience with modern web development technologies and practices, including: Git/Github, CI/CD, TDD, Web accessibility (WCAG 2.2 or similar)
- Personal experience with the justice system, social safety net, workforce training, or other mission relevant experience
- Recent experience integrating emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI models) into existing workflows or new solutions
- Experience measuring and optimizing software performance
- Strong technical writing skills and a willingness to use them
- Experience in Tailwind CSS, Alpine JS
