Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Siemens Grid Software is focused on accelerating and securing the energy transition sustainably. They are seeking a Senior/Lead Power Systems Consultant to conduct large-scale power system studies and simulations, supporting the integration of renewable energy resources into the electric grid.
Responsibilities
- Conducting in-depth power system studies: Performing steady-state/power flow analysis, short circuit studies, transient stability analysis, and EMT simulation to evaluate the reliable integration of renewable generation, battery energy storage, and large loads into the grid
- Developing comprehensive technical reports: Preparing detailed written reports that clearly articulate study scope, assumptions, methodologies, conclusions, and actionable recommendations
- Ensuring project success through effective communication: Collaborating closely with project managers and study teams, communicating scope and status proactively, and delivering high-quality work on time and within budget
- Driving efficiency through innovation: Developing automation scripts and tools to enhance the speed, accuracy, and reliability of simulations and analyses
- Leading complex power system projects: Independently performing studies, leading and coordinating small project teams, and ensuring the highest quality deliverables are achieved within project timelines and budgetary constraints
- Providing technical mentorship and thought leadership: Sharing expertise, guiding junior colleagues, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge transfer within the team
- Contributing to business growth: Supporting proposal development by crafting detailed project plans, budgets, and timelines that align with client needs and Siemens' strategic objectives
Skills
- A master's degree in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems is required; a Ph.D. degree is highly desirable
- Senior: a minimum 5 years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, developers, ISO/RTOs, or National Labs
- Lead: a minimum 8 years of professional experience in the electric power industry, gained from consulting, utilities, developers, ISO/RTOs, or National Labs
- An advanced degree, e.g. MS, PhD, can substitute 1~2 years
- Extensive and proven expertise in transmission planning and/ or operations, generator modeling, and generator interconnection studies, experienced user of multiple tools including PSS®E, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, and others
- Ability to travel 5% domestically each year
- Progressive experience working in a power system consulting environment, demonstrating client-facing skills and project delivery expertise
- Extensive and proven experience in performing and interpreting complex power flow/ steady-state analysis, dynamic stability, EMT studies, and short circuit studies
- Proven experience in developing scripts (e.g., Python, MATLAB) to automate the execution, post-processing, and analysis of power system simulations, enhancing efficiency and accuracy
- Strong working knowledge of NERC reliability standards (such as TPL or MOD series) and Regional Entity (e.g., ERCOT, MISO, PJM) planning guides and model quality requirements for generation interconnection
- Deep understanding of the dynamic model and control logic. The experience of building and tuning dynamic parameters in PSSE or PSCAD is highly preferred
