Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Provoke Solutions is a global consulting firm focused on building AI-native solutions. They are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to provide technical direction and structure to their evolving data environment, mentoring junior developers and establishing integration patterns and governance frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that move data reliably across the environment
- Work within the current on-prem stack (SSIS/SSAS) while helping guide the eventual move to cloud
- Contribute to the cloud strategy conversation around Fabric and Snowflake, both still under evaluation
- Establish integration patterns and reference data practices where none currently exist
- Support the rollout of Daxter for orchestration and help shape the future governance layer with DataHub or OpenMetadata
- Mentor junior data engineers and share technical best practices across the team
- Troubleshoot independently and bring creative solutions to problems that don't have an obvious playbook
- Partner with technical and business stakeholders to translate requirements into working data solutions
Skills
- 8-10 years of data engineering experience, with real depth in ETL/ELT work
- Hands-on background in on-prem environments, ideally with SSIS or similar tools
- Exposure to cloud data platforms, Fabric or Snowflake preferred
- A track record of solving problems independently, without needing a manager to point the way
- Experience mentoring or guiding less experienced engineers
- Comfort operating in ambiguity: this environment doesn't have formal patterns yet, and you'll help write them
- Strong communication skills, since you'll work across both technical and business audiences
- Microsoft certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) or Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700)
- Snowflake certifications such as SnowPro Core
- Experience with data governance or cataloging tools (DataHub, OpenMetadata, Collibra, Alation, or similar)
- Familiarity with open-source orchestration tools such as Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect
- Experience building or maintaining a data warehouse or data mart from the ground up
- Background establishing data quality checks, testing frameworks, or monitoring for production pipelines
- Prior work in an environment moving from on-prem to cloud, so the candidate has lived through that kind of transition before
- Experience introducing integration patterns or reference data practices to a team that didn't have them yet
- Background in data mesh or domain-oriented data ownership models
Benefits
- US time zone alignment with PT. Flexibility to accommodate client schedules is part of the role.
- This role is offered as W2 hourly employment
