The Manager of Project Engineering will provide technical leadership, establish engineering standards and processes, and ensure successful project execution from design through customer acceptance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of Project Engineers responsible for the design, implementation, and commissioning of automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS)
- Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle, from handoff through final customer acceptance
- Establish engineering priorities, allocate resources, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and in alignment with customer requirements
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues during project execution
- Ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across all engineering deliverables
- Oversee the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including equipment specifications, system layouts, installation drawings, as-built documentation, and operation manuals
- Review and approve engineering designs and detailed drawings to ensure technical feasibility, safety, manufacturability, and compliance with Hai Robotics standards
- Lead technical reviews of automation systems involving robotic storage solutions, conveyors, interfaces, and warehouse control systems
- Ensure seamless integration between robotic equipment, software platforms, and customer infrastructure
- Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure technical requirements are clearly defined and accurately executed
- Act as the senior technical point of contact for customers, internal teams, and implementation partners
- Support project teams during installation, testing, commissioning, and customer acceptance activities
- Drive resolution of technical challenges while balancing project timelines and customer expectations
- Evaluate equipment installations and field implementations to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and product requirements
- Establish and improve engineering processes, standards, templates, and best practices to enhance project efficiency and quality
- Monitor engineering performance metrics and implement corrective actions when needed
- Support root cause analysis and lessons-learned activities to drive continuous improvement
- Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop Project Engineers and other technical resources
- Conduct performance management activities, goal setting, career development planning, and ongoing coaching
- Develop technical training programs and onboarding plans for new engineering team members
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and customer focus
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related technical field
- 7+ years of experience in warehouse automation, material handling systems, robotics, or industrial automation
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams or technical project teams
- Experience with mobile robotics technologies, including AGVs, AMRs, ACRs, or similar automated systems
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or 3D modeling software
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation, system layouts, equipment specifications, and installation practices
- Familiarity with field measurement and verification tools, including laser measuring devices, calipers, plumb bobs, and other precision instruments
- Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Experience with Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS)
- Experience integrating robotics, warehouse control systems (WCS), warehouse management systems (WMS), and material handling equipment
- PMP certification or equivalent project management training
- Experience supporting large-scale customer implementations in logistics, distribution, or e-commerce environments
