BeckThom HR Consulting is seeking a Compensation Data Analyst to support a large-scale classification and compensation study for a public-sector workforce. The role involves complex data analysis, data visualization, and market benchmarking to inform the development of an equitable and competitive pay structure.
Responsibilities
- Perform direct market-pricing matching and benchmarking using standard third-party compensation survey database methodologies
- Evaluate client roles against survey descriptions to calculate accurate comp-ratios, range penetrations, and market positioning metrics
- Support the review and evaluation of current public-sector compensation structures, job classifications, and internal salary datasets
- Conduct internal equity analyses to identify compression risks, anomalies, and structural alignment issues
- Build interactive data visualizations and business intelligence reports using Tableau, Power BI, and Workday to present workforce data patterns to leadership
- Transform complex data outliers, pay equity gaps, and range penetration models into intuitive, high-impact graphics for the final executive briefing
- Synthesize findings into publication-ready charts and visual layouts that integrate seamlessly into the final project proposal and executive summary
- Develop and maintain complex, multi-variable Excel models to evaluate the financial impact of proposed pay structures
- Design multi-year implementation funding scenarios and cost projections for client leadership
- Audit data pipelines to ensure absolute precision, consistency, and compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations
Skills
- Public-sector, state, or municipal government environment experience
- Experience: 2 – 5 years of dedicated compensation analysis or advanced HR data analytics experience
- Survey Expertise: Verifiable professional experience working directly with survey compensation databases
- Technical Mastery: Highly advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (Pivot Tables, advanced nested formulas) paired with professional proficiency in Tableau or Power BI
- Compliance Knowledge: Practical working knowledge of wage-and-hour laws, FLSA classification testing, and pay equity auditing methodologies
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, Economics, or a heavily quantitative field
- Prior experience conducting compensation and job classification studies in a public-sector state or municipal government environment
- Professional certification, such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or SHRM-CP/SCP
- Strong consulting background with experience presenting complex statistical methodologies directly to corporate or public executives
