FASD United empowers people living with FASD and prenatal substance exposure to educate systems of care and the public, enact policies, and unite communities everywhere.

Position

The Board will support the work of FASD United and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by FASD United’s chief executive officer (CEO), the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include:

Leadership, Governance, and Oversight:

Fundraising

FASD United Board Members will consider FASD United a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority. So that FASD United can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, FASD United expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity. Although board and committee meetings are held remotely through zoom, we do ask board members to make attendance at our annual gala fundraiser in Washington, DC a personal priority.

Board terms/participation

FASD United’s Board Members will serve an initial one-year term to be eligible for re-appointment for two additional two-year terms. Board meetings will be held monthly, and committee meetings will be held in coordination with full board meetings.

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about FASD United’s mission and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. Their accomplishments will allow them to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members. Persons with FASD are encouraged to apply.
